I’ve been thinking lately about how I could make a video catalog to help people locate videos easier. Well, I think I’ve come up with something, in the short-term at least, and it gave me an excuse to update the die inventory.
Back in January, I posted a Google spreadsheet I had developed to help people keep track of their dies. A few weeks later, AccuQuilt posted their own Studio die inventory list, but I still like mine better. Why?
Well, my list is in a spreadsheet that you can download and edit, while theirs is in a static PDF. If they update dies on their list later, you basically have to download a new copy and mark off your dies again by hand. On my list, I add new rows to the bottom and highlight the changes since the last spreadsheet.
I never re-sort this list by category, so that way, new things are easier to find – they are always at the bottom. All you have to do is copy & paste.
On this latest spreadsheet, I’ve added a new column called “Video”, which gives you the link to any videos which were created around that die. What’s really nice about this for you is that you can look up the die number and see if I’ve done a video for it. What’s nice for me is that I can see “holes” in my video offerings and try to fill them. I have a looooong way to go, by the way. 🙂
My recommendation would be to copy/paste new die rows into your own personal spreadsheet so that you can keep track of whether or not you own it, but Bookmark the spreadsheet to access the video listing. That way, in case you’ve actually sorted your spreadsheet as new dies come up, you don’t have to worry about the video links ending up in odd places. Also, I expect I’ll be adding new video links way more often than AccuQuilt adds new Studio dies. 🙂
I would be happy to do the same for the GO dies, but I don’t currently have the die listing in Excel. If anyone has an Excel version of the GO dies & wants to provide that to me, I’ll do the same thing for the GO owners.
