Are you getting really irritating messages from my blog feed, with password-protected Woo Commerce posts instead of real ones? Here’s why, and how to fix it.
The techies and I have been trying, and apparently unsuccessfully, to update the RSS service for my blog so I can get off the Feedburner service. Over the years my blog has moved about 6 times, but I never had to update the RSS feed address, so it’s been mostly serving up my blog content to my faithful subscribers over the years.
But time moves on, technology changes, and sometimes a seamless transition doesn’t work out.
Why Am I Getting Password-Protected Comments from WooCommerce?
Many people have reported receiving these really puzzling emails from my RSS feed, which usually includes some WooCommerce password-protected items, and then a real comment.
I finally figured out what those are, and why they are being sent out!
You see, most people are subscribed to lovebugstudios.com/blog/feed. But guess what?
The real feed has moved to https://lovebugstudios.com/feed.
And the old blog feed is now pointing to the blog comments instead. And guess what else?
That blog feed, which is now a comment feed, is actually picking up the SPAM entries! But you can’t see them, because the SPAM entries are in the SPAM queue, and thus they are password-protected because nobody but me has access to the SPAM queue.
I love getting to the bottom of mysteries!
So now that we know what’s causing it, we just need to fix it, right? Well, if you mean “we” as in YOU, then yes.
How to Fix the RSS Feed and Stop Getting WooCommerce Posts
The thing is… YOU are the one subscribed to the RSS feed. The feed address has changed. So YOU have to update your RSS feed in your reader or however it is you’re receiving them. I know that’s inconvenient and sucks a little bit, but them’s the breaks.
An even waaaaaaay better approach though is to sign up to receive my blog via email. Why is this so much better?
Because the next time I need to make changes to my feed, the “we” becomes ME, and I have more control over how the feed looks and what’s included. Which means you won’t get SPAM comments!
So here are the options as I see it:
UPDATE your RSS feed to this address: https://lovebugstudios.com/feed/
If you’re using Feedly or some other service, you’ll need to go to that service and update the feed address using those instructions.
If you’re using Outlook or Gmail to receive RSS, you’ll have to go into your mail program to update it.
DELETE my RSS feed from your email or feed reader, AND
Sign up for my blog posts via email below to continue receiving them. The email only publishes once a week, so you won’t get bombarded with updates!
After you put in your email address and hit “subscribe”, you’ll get an email asking you to confirm your subscription. Make sure you follow those steps or it won’t work!
Please note that there’s no way for me to prevent you from receiving the emails coming via the incorrect feed. YOU need to take action, with either Option 1 or Option 2. I hope you’ll choose Option 2!
