There’s never a perfect time to begin something new, so instead of waiting for a perfect time or a perfect show, I’ve decided to launch From the Cutting Room Floor – TONIGHT!
Do I have all the kinks worked out? Nope. But I know what I want to talk about, and I have a good idea of how everything should work.
My hope is that you come with an open mind, ready to participate! Hopefully this will be fun for all of us, and we’ll all learn something from the experience.
The thing about a live format is that, I can plan for as many things as possible, but something unexpected will happen, guaranteed. I’ve recruited my assistant Sarah as sidekick for this episode, so if you hear a disembodied voice or see phantom hands in my shots, they belong to her! She’s going to be watching the feed and passing me comments from viewers.
I’m going to try to make this as interactive as possible too – but please know that if you have a question that’s off-topic we may not be able to answer it in this episode.
So far, here’s what I’m planning in this episode:
- Die Cutting Tip: Fabric Grain! We recommend lengthwise but seem to always cut crosswise. What’s up with that?
- Audience Question: Is there a right or wrong way to insert the die into my cutter? What’s with the label & the “Caution” sticker?
- Sneak Peek: Quilt Market & Festival is coming & I’ve got a TON of stuff I can’t show you! But there are a couple that I will. Shhhhh!
I’ll also sprinkle in some shout outs and things & chat in between. Most of all though I hope this is going to be so much fun that you can’t wait to come back and watch again & share it with your friends!
Fabric grain is an interesting one. I noticed on a few dies that the shape is actually on a slight angle. I had a die cut special by CustomShapeDies and they did the same thing. When I asked why, they replied it had something to do with the fact the dies cut better with the shapes slightly off grain. Of course that doesn’t apply to the strips since they are all parallel to the edge of the die board. Have you noticed this, or is it just me?
Oh yes Ramona, this is done absolutely on purpose! I talk about this a little bit in the episode on why the dies are angled in the board.
