We
will begin by cutting enough fabric to assemble at least one unit from
each type of block within the quilt, to verify dimensions and aesthetics.
You will have the opportunity to view a full-color photograph of the
actual fabrics, which will give you a nearly-accurate representation
of the finish product (sometimes colors vary with browsers & monitors.)
Changes can still be made to the design, but you may
incur additional charges if you make a change that requires additional
yardage or rework from the original, approved design. It's important
that you be 100% happy with the finished product, so do not hesitate
to bring something to our attention if you are not pleased, and we will
work with you to fix it.
Once dimensions are verified, we will cut out and
assemble the remaining blocks. The interior of the quilt is then pieced,
squared & measured in preparation for borders. We then cut each
border individually, and apply it to the quilt to to bring it to its
final size.
If your quilt has appliqués, those are typically
applied after block cutting but before piecing the interior of the quilt
top. Appliqués are secured with a decorative stitch around the
edges. We typically use a satin- or blanket-stitch, but we always select
a decorative stitch that will complement the finished piece.

Once the quilt top is complete, we begin work on the
quilt back. The back may be pieced using scraps from construction, or
use a single fabric. Pieced backs are more interesting to look at, and
can sometimes be as lovely as the front! This is typically left to the
artist to determine, but if you have a preference, please let us know!
